The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) is a government institution responsible for administering national examinations in Tanzania. Established by the Parliamentary Act No. 21 of 1973, NECTA oversees the development, regulation, and administration of examinations for primary, secondary, and post-secondary education to ensure quality and standardization in the country’s education system.
NECTA Correction of Names on Academic Certificates
Correction of Names – For the correction of misspelled names on certificates for candidates whose names were incorrectly recorded during the examination registration process.
The Tanzania Examinations Council handles applications for correction of candidates’ names that were incorrectly written in Primary, Secondary and Teacher Training College examinations. The following is the procedure used for submitting applications and making corrections.
CONDITIONS FOR NAME CORRECTIONS
(a) Applications for corrections must be submitted within one year of the date of the examination results.
(b) Name corrections must be made to make the requested name the same as the name used in the qualification examination (original).
(c) Corrections that aim to add a new name or remove/change a name (Example: Names to Madoba) are not permitted.
(d) Corrections that aim to improve the spelling that do not affect the pronunciation of the name when pronounced may be requested.
(e) The sole basis for name correction is the qualification examination (original) and not the name appearing in court oaths, marriage certificates, baptismal certificates, etc.
(f) The original certificate with the incorrect name must be returned to NECTA for the correction process.
STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN APPLYING
(a) Open the NECTA website (www.necta.go.tz)
(i) Select and click on E-services
(ii) Enter your phone number to get a verification code number
(iii) Enter the verification code you received on your phone (four digits [04])
(iv) Enter your email address.
(b) How to make payment using a ‘Control Number’
(i) Enter the applicant’s names exactly as they appear on the certificate/result slip.
(ii) Re-enter your phone number.
(iii) Re-enter your email address.
(iv) Select the service (Correction of Names).
(v) Generate a control number (Generate Bill).
(vi) Pay the name correction fee of TSh 35,000 (per certificate) via a bank or mobile network using the generated control number.
(c) After making the payment
(i) Click on Correction of Names and apply (Apply/New)
(ii) Enter your mobile number and payment number (Control Number).
(g) Fill in the Online Application Form
Fill in the Online Application Form then Submit the application by clicking ‘Submit’.
CUSTOMER RESPONSE
After the corrections are made, a Results Slip or a new certificate with the corrections will be sent to the school principal or to the candidate (if not a student).
